🧾 NIF: your tax number
The NIF (número de identificação fiscal) is your tax number. Employers, landlords, banks and phone companies will ask for it.
You request it from the tax authority (Finanças), at a Finanças office or through their online services. People who don't live in Portugal yet may need a fiscal representative.
It's free when you request it yourself. Be careful with paid services that promise one 'fast'.
